Chapter Six: Melt with you

*One month later*

Amy sighed as she finished getting ready for the journey ahead of her. She had finally recovered and was now getting ready for her mission with Rouge and Shadow to find the remaining three chaos emeralds. She looked into the mirror and admired herself. She thought about how Shadow was so nice to her.

'I thought he was the dark type' she thought to herself. Her thoughts were interrupted by her watch communicator beeping. She pressed the respond button. *Jezebel, report to the launching pad! Your departure is in T minus five minutes!* she heard a familiar voice bellow.

"Yes, doctor. I'm on my way right now" Amy said into the watch. She clicked the watch off and gave herself one last glance into the mirror before heading towards the launching pad.

*At the launching pad*

Amy entered the launching area and saw Eggman, Rouge, and Shadow finishing on the last few details on the route. "Good morning, Jezebel" Rouge said, smiling. Amy simply smiled and walked over to the table. "So how is this going to work?" she asked.

"You will first search in Antarctica, and then you will arrive at the Amazonian jungle and search there. Once you have two emeralds, you will travel to the Sea of Galilee and use the special equipment in the ship to gather the emerald" Eggman bellowed.

After the trio finished loading the ship, Eggman walked up the two hedgehogs and the bat. "I wish you the best of luck" Eggman said. The three nodded and started to head towards the ship. "Shadow, Rouge, I must speak with you for a moment. Jezebel, start the engine, please" Eggman said with a smirk.

Shadow and Rouge looked at each other with an angered expression. Amy did as Eggman ordered and left the three alone. Eggman looked down at the two agents with a look of warning. "Understand that just because I won't be going with you does not mean I won't know what you are doing."

Eggman pulled the red button out of his pocket. "This device is capable of global signals. I hope I won't have to test it; don't you?" Eggman said with a smirk as he pointed to the remote. Shadow growled as his fur started to puff up from pure rage. Rouge hissed at the scientist and spread out her wings in a defensive position as her ears lowered with anger.

"I'm sorry, could you please repeat that" Eggman asked, resting his thumb on the dreaded button. Shadow growled before whispering a "Yes sir." Rouge did the same as her wings closed up. "Good, now go" Eggman spat. As Shadow and Rouge started to walk back to the ship, they started to curse the fat villain under their breath.

*After they finished buckling up*

Amy sat down in a window seat and sipped a de-cafe coffee that she ordered from one of the robot flight attendants. Shadow sat down near the back of the seats and huffed as he crossed his arms. Rouge sat down at the table Amy was sitting at and started to draw little circles with her finger on the table.

*ATTENTION PASSENGERS. PLEASE FASTEN YOURSELVES. WE WILL BE TAKING OF IN T MINUS ONE MINUTE* Shadow fastened his seatbelt as Rouge and Amy did too. *COMMENCING LAUNCH IN 10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1* Suddenly, the ship shook as the jets sprayed out sparks and the ship took off.

Eggman chuckled after the ship was out of sight. "Soon enough, I will be rid of that blue annoyance forever! Decoe, Bocoe! Prepare the Egg-Hawk! We have some business to take care of!"

*With the Sonic Gang*

Tails sighed as he nibbled on a pop-tart. It had been a full month since Amy's attack and the guys still weren't fully recovered. 'No wonder Amy uses a hammer. It hurts a lot less' the fox thought. Suddenly, he heard a knock at the door. "Coming" Tails said as he finished off his pop-tart.

He opened the door to see the entire Sonic Team standing there. "You wanted to see us?" Nikkei asked. Tails nodded and let his friends in. "I called you all here because I have come up with a plan to help Amy" Tails said. "As long as I'm in one piece afterwards, I'm all for it" Mighty grumbled.

"Anyways" Tails continued, "What we'll do is start off by" *CRASH!!!!!!!!!!!!* The fox was interrupted by the sounds of his ceiling being crushed. The Sonic Team looked up and saw Eggman in the Egg-Hawk, one of the claws holding Tails' now destroyed roof. Sonic growled the mad scientist.

"EGGMAN!" the cobalt hero screamed, remembering who was responsible for Amy's strange behavior. *IT IS NOT A PLEASURE TO SEE YOU AGAIN, SONIC!* Eggman bellowed through the megaphone. Sonic growled and charged at the Egg-Hawk. His attack was quickly countered with a metal fist shoved into his stomach, knocking the wind out of Sonic.

Knuckles limped over to Sonic, trying to manage his walking boot that cradled his still broken foot.  While Knuckles took care of Sonic, the rest of the gang took action. Nikkei focused her shockra and formed a ball of the strange energy in her fist. She quickly threw the blow at the ship, only for another metal fist to counter it.

*MEET MY NEWEST CREATIONS!* Eggman cried out. *INTRODUCING METAL SONIC, METAL SHADOW, AND METAL KNUCKLES!* The three metal imposters charged at the Sonic gang. Espio disappeared and used his ninja skills to sneak up on Metal Shadow. He grabbed the robot's arm and flipped it over.

The robot quickly recovered from the blow and grabbed the chameleon's ankle. Metal Shadow quickly activated its rocket boosters and flew into the open sky, Espio still dangling by his ankle. After they were a good ways up, the robot let go of Espio ankle and punched him in the stomach, causing Espio's speed towards the earth to increase.

Just as Espio was only a few feet from the ground, Cream quickly snatched him up. "Gotcha!" she squeaked as she pulled him back up into the sky. "Thanks" Espio said, sighing with relief. Vector on the other hand, was trying to out muscle Metal Knuckles.

What the crew didn't notice was that Bokkun had sneaked past the fighting and into Tails' lab. The little messenger found the compartment where Tails kept three chaos emeralds. Bokkun quickly snatched them up and put them in his fanny pack before zipping back to the Egg-Hawk.

"I got 'em, Dr. Eggman, sir!" the little robot cheered. "Excellent!" Eggman cried. "Metals, retreat. Our work here is done" Eggman said into a little radio. All three of the metal doppelgangers quickly retreated to the giant ship, leaving the Sonic Team confused. *THANK YOU FOR THE GOING AWAY PRESENT! UNTIL NEXT TIME, YOU LITTLE RATS!* Eggman screamed.

Tails thought for a moment and his eyes widened as he thought up an answer. "Oh no" he said as he ran into what was left of his workshop. He looked inside and confirmed that Eggman had indeed stolen all of their chaos emeralds. "This is bad. This is really, really bad" Tails said, beads of sweat forming on his forehead as he shook his head with worry.

*Meanwhile with Shadow, Rouge, and Amy*

Amy sighed and looked around the ship in search to find something to entertain herself. She stopped when she noticed a certain black hedgehog staring out the window. She took in a deep breath as she stood up and walked over to the ebony male.

"Hey, stranger" she said as she sat down next to him. Shadow turned to look at Amy and quickly turned back towards the sky. "Is something wrong?"  she asked, concerned as to why Shadow was so grumpy. "Nothing" he mumbled. Amy frowned, clearly not believing Shadow's lie. "C'mon, I can tell that something's eating you, so spill it."

Shadow still refused to look at the pink she-hog. Amy finally huffed and grabbed the hedgehog's shoulder. She pushed him back into his seat and glared at him. "Shadow, what is going on?" Shadow growled and tried to turn his head away.
Amy responded by grabbing his face with both her hands and forcing him to look into her eyes.

"Shadow" she said in a serious tone. "Please, tell me what's wrong" she said, her voice softening. Shadow felt himself get lost in those emerald pools that belonged to Amy. They were rarer than a chaos emerald to the anti-hero. He felt his cheeks warm up as an almost unnoticeable shade of pink spread across his muzzle.

Amy noticed his blush, to Shadow's demise, and started to blush herself. They stared into each other's eyes for what seemed like forever, finding their way to inch closer and closer to each other. Soon, they were only a breath away from each other when…*BAM!*

The sudden jerking threw Shadow and Amy onto the floor, their heads knocking against each other. *WE ARE EXPERIANCING TURBULANCE. PLEASE RETURN TO YOUR SEATS AND FASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS.* a robot voice instructed. Amy blushed hard with embarrassment as she scrambled up and walked back to her seat as fast as she could.

Shadow watched as she walked away and looked down at floor in regret. He growled and banged his head against the window after he got back in his seat. 'Stupid stupid!' he screamed in his head. His thoughts were soon interrupted by the turbulence.

*Later with the Sonic Gang*

Sonic whimpered as Tails popped his shoulder back into place. He squeezed his eyes shut and his breath hitched was Tails put it back in a sling. "How bad is it?" Sonic asked. "*sigh* Well, you re-dislocated your shoulder and you broke your nose." Sonic groaned at hearing that he was still injured.

"I can't believe he got all three of our emeralds" Nikkei said, looking at the empty compartment. "The fault is mine. I should have known that the doctor was sneaking the emeralds" Espio said, embarrassed for not using his ninja instincts. Vector patted his shoulder, trying to comfort the chameleon.

"I think you should explain what we should do about Amy now, Tails" Nikkei said, kissing Sonic on the cheek and hugging him gently. Tails nodded and began to explain his plan.

*The next day on the new Team Dark's ship*

After the ship had landed on the frozen tundra, the trio began to prepare for their journey.  Rouge finished putting on her heavy coats and helped Amy with the oxygen tanks. Shadow just watched as they did so as he stood in the doorway.

He huffed and turned to walk down the corridor to his temporary room. The door opened with a swishing sound and Shadow rubbed his temples as he sat down on his bed. 'Why can't I stop thinking about it?' he thought to himself. Ever since yesterday, all Shadow could think about was his almost-kiss with Amy.

'Why is she acting like it never happened? Maybe I should just drop it…'. Shadow ignored the thought and started to suit up for the journey on the arctic scenery.

*Later*

"Ready, guys" Rouge asked. "Ready" Amy said, checking her goggles. Shadow just huffed. "Alright then" Rouge said. She pressed the button that opened the door to the arctic land. The three started their snowmobiles and speed out onto the snow.

"How are the readings looking?" Shadow asked. Rouge looked down at her monitor screen. "We should reach it in a few miles" she said into her headpiece.

*Half an hour later*

Shadow sighed and looked up at Amy as they rode in their snowmobiles. Her eyes wandered to him, but when she saw his glance, she gasped and quickly looked back at the snow in front of her. Shadow, on the other hand, wasn't paying attention to his monitor or how it said *WARNING! THIN ICE AHEAD!*

Before he knew it, Shadow was riding over the thin ice. The ice gave away like tissue paper, sending Shadow hurdling into the icy waters. Rouge and Amy saw their teammate crash and quickly screeched to a stop. "SHADOW!" Amy cried as she ran over to the opening on the lake. Rouge grabbed her arm just before she stepped onto the lake.

"Careful!" she screamed, "That ice will give away the minute you step on it!" Amy ripped her arm away from Rouge's grip. "I don't care! He's my friend, dammit!" Amy turned back to the water. "Call for help" she said before diving into the freezing water.

Amy looked around the silent, icy water. She squinted her eyes as she continued to look frantically for Shadow. She soon found a shadow of a hedgehog floating in the water. Shadow didn't know how to swim, another quality he was forced to share with Sonic.

Amy jetted over to him and grabbed his arm. She kicked as hard as she could until she finally reached the surface. She gasped for breath and quickly got out of the water. She pulled Shadow out of the freezing death trap and started to use CPR.

"One…two…three" she whispered, pushing against the limp hedgehog's chest. Nothing. Amy tried again, fighting back the tears that were forming in her eyes. She looked up at Shadow's face after she tried a third time. She blushed as she came to a conclusion.

She took a deep breath before she scooted over to his head. She opened shadow's mouth and pinched his nose. She closed her eyes and counted back slowly. 'One…two…three' Amy quickly shot down and gave Shadow three breaths, ignoring the obvious enjoyment in her heart.

She pushed on his chest again and finally, Shadow coughed. He coughed again and water came out of his mouth. Amy breathed a sigh of relief as she saw that he was still alive. "W-what?" Shadow moaned. "Thank God!" Amy said, quickly wrapping her arms around Shadow and pulling him into a strong hug.

Shadow blushed by her actions, but it was quickly overcome by the relief of warmth in his body. After a few seconds, Shadow loosened his grip on Amy, but she still held him close. "What are you d-doing?" Shadow asked, his teeth starting to chatter.

"We have to kept warmth to your heart to continue the blood flow" Amy said, obviously overjoyed that Shadow was alright. Moments later, a small medical van showed up. Rouge ran over to the two hedgehogs and helped get shadow over to the medical bots.

*Hours later*

Shadow finally regained consciousness and groaned as he rubbed his head. "Shadow?" a soft voice said worryingly. Shadow turned and saw Amy sitting on a stool across the room. "Rose?" Shadow rasped. Amy smiled and walked over to the ebony male. "What happened?"

"You weren't paying attention and you fell through the ice. I was able to save you ion time and the medical bots rushed you back here" Amy said as she sat down on the side of his bed. Shadow sighed. "I apologize. I ruined the mission." Amy smiled. "Don't worry. Rouge and I recovered it while you were unconscious. And don't worry, you'll get credit.'

Shadow looked down at the floor guiltily. "Rose?" "Hmm?" "Why?" Amy gave Shadow a confused look. "What?"  Shadow looked up into Amy's eyes. "Why are you pretending what happened on the way here didn't happen?" Amy felt her cheeks turn a light shade of pink as she turned to look at the other wall.

An awkward silence filled the room. Shadow grabbed Amy's arm and forced her to look into his eyes. "Tell me the reason why" Shadow said. Amy swallowed hard as her face grew hotter. "I-I…..I just thought you'd…….get mad at me……." She said barely in a whisper.

Shadow grabbed her other arm and pulled her closer. "I would never do that" Shadow said. "Shadow…"' Amy said. The soon got lost in each other's eyes again. They soon started to inch closer and closer until they're lips were only an inch apart. "I love you" Amy whispered before they closed the space between them with a passionate kiss.
